What Is a Pool Heat Pump?

A pool heat pump heats pool water using the same refrigerant cycle, but with a corrosion-resistant exchanger and a much larger water volume to work against.

01

Sizing against losses, not just volume

Pool heating is a battle against surface heat loss. Surface area, wind exposure, whether a cover is used and the target temperature matter as much as volume. A Big Bay pool exposed to south-easters loses far more heat than a sheltered Constantia pool of the same size.

02

Flow and bypass

The unit is plumbed into the filtration circuit with a three-valve bypass so flow through the exchanger can be regulated and the unit isolated for service. Too little flow triggers lockouts; too much wastes pump energy.

03

Realistic expectations

A correctly sized pool heat pump raises temperature gradually over days, not hours, and holds it. A pool cover typically does more for retained temperature than any equipment upgrade.
