How the retrofit works
The heat pump is mounted outside in a position with good airflow. Water is circulated from the bottom of the cylinder, through the heat pump's heat exchanger, and returned to the tank. A controller and temperature sensor manage the cycle, and the existing element is usually retained as backup.
When an existing geyser suits a retrofit
The cylinder must be sound, correctly rated, and reasonably close to a viable outdoor mounting position. Long pipe runs increase heat loss and pumping cost. Older cylinders nearing end of life are often better replaced at the same time than retrofitted and then replaced a year later.
What we check before quoting
Cylinder condition and rating, valve arrangement, available electrical supply, access for the outdoor unit, pipe route length and household demand pattern. Only then can a sensible recommendation be made.
